Finding other writers

Enlight50

You have been writing for a little while now and you’ve really enjoyed the process so far. While you may recognize and appreciate this this is a fairly solitary endeavor in many ways. This doesn’t mean that you aren’t craving some interaction with others on the same path. How can you find other writers to talk with?

While there may be lots of other writers in your area, you may not have come across any just yet. Since there probably isn’t a regular office you are heading into to write, it’s likely that you aren’t meeting up with like-minded individuals by simply getting some work done. This means you will need to seek out come comrades if you are to converse with your peers.

One of the easiest ways to do this is to seek out writing groups in your area. Libraries, bookstores, and college campuses are great places to search for these, but you may also come across groups in online forums or local news outlets. Let the people in your life know you are spending your time writing and you may be surprised to find that they know of others doing the same. Head to writing conferences held nearby to find writers within reasonable driving distance from your hometown and take advantage of any connections you make by continuing a relationship with writers both near and far online or over the phone.

If you are having trouble finding other writers in the world around you, the internet can be an amazing tool to help connect you with some like-minded individuals. See if you can find a virtual writing group to take part in or take an online writing course to help fine-tune your craft. You may find others who are seeking out the same type of companionship this way.
